Comfortable Shoes
These are the most comfortable shoes I own. I've been wearing them for years now and am always worried they'll discontinue the model. As a result I usually have 2 or 3 backups ready for when the current pair wears out. I own them in all three styles. White and Blue, Black, and White, Red and Black. One thing I've notice compared to other brands is the toe box doesn't curve in as quickly - meaning your toes don't get pinched at all. Highly recommended.

I fixed the Squeak
Comfortable, good fit, looks good. I heard other reviewers mention the squeaking. Yes, mine got really bad after about 3 months. I was ready to toss them but decided to see what I could try. It's like the shoes needed a grease nipple to lube them up like an automobile. I peeled out and removed the inner sole liner. They are not glued in permanently. My shoes have a little hole under that liner at the shoe heel and another near the front. I removed the laces enough to be able to stick the plastic straw nozzel of WD-40 lube in the front hole. I squirted some in the front hole and rear of each. Then put the sole liner back in, laced them up and squeak was gone. Been a week now and no squeak, no oil smell, etc. I started out easy on the amount of oil then did a little more a 2nd time. So if you're thinking of getting rid of them you might try what I did. I guess what I lubed was the air bladder in the sole of the shoes. Make sure you use the little plastic straw that comes with most spray...
Reasons for squeaky Air Monarch shoes
The Nike Air Monarch is probably the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. And it comes in the 4E size I have a hard time finding. The bad news is the much documented squeak problem. After a few weeks, the shoes start to squeak, going from a soft sound to one that you can hear for miles!
I'm on my 3rd pair in 9 months so I decided to tear one open and find out why they squeaked so badly. First I pealed back the first layer, the soft rubbery and cloth pad that touches your feet. Nothing unusual there. Then there is a thin cloth layer between the top layer and the air cushion. I removed that also, leaving the air cushion. It's made of a thick stiff vinyl-like material that has air pockets. Maybe a 1/4 inch thick. And this sits on a stiff hard foam material that is the same as the outside part of the shoe. The air cushion slides into a slot of the foam material. What happens is when the shoe is new, all the pieces of the shoe fit tightly together. After a few weeks, when you break...
